Things to Do Alone in Kelowna: Solo Traveller Ideas

2 min read

Enjoy a waterfront walk, museum visit, café stop or booked paddle session. A solo holiday does not mean you have to go onto the lake without company.

Quick summary

Enjoy a waterfront walk, museum visit, café stop or booked local experience. Travelling alone does not mean you have to explore Kelowna entirely on your own.

1. Give yourself an easy waterfront morning

Start with breakfast or coffee, then walk a section of the lakefront that suits your energy. You can stop whenever you like, linger over a view and change the plan without negotiating with a group.

2. Explore Kelowna with a local

Want company while seeing more of the city? Our Kelowna Walking Tour is a small-group 4–5 hour experience with a friendly local guide, an easy hike, scenic viewpoint and local food stop. Free hotel or accommodation pickup and drop-off is available for up to 3 guests in Kelowna and West Kelowna.

3. Book company for your paddle

Our Paddle Buddy session is for people who already know the basics and want an experienced local paddling alongside them. It can suit a solo visitor who wants company and local insight.

It is not a first-time lesson. If you have never paddled, start with our beginner paddle board lesson instead. Prefer seated paddling? Our inflatable kayak-style paddle board rental uses a double-ended kayak paddle.

4. Take yourself on a food-and-art outing

Choose one place to eat and a few Cultural District stops. Keep it loose enough to stay longer somewhere you like. You do not need a packed schedule to make a solo afternoon enjoyable.

5. Try a booked event

A class at the Rotary Centre for the Arts can give the day a shared element without requiring you to arrive with friends. Check the current event calendar and book directly with the organiser.

A comfortable solo-day plan

  • Morning: coffee and a waterfront walk.
  • Afternoon: a museum, walking tour or booked lake activity.
  • Evening: a meal and an event, if you feel like company.

For any outdoor outing, tell someone your plan and return time. If the lake is your main goal, read our guide to finding paddling company in Kelowna.
