Quick Summary
Choose a lesson to learn or improve your skills. Choose a guided tour when exploring the shoreline is your main goal. Paddle Buddy suits people who already know the basics and mainly want company.
Lessons and guided tours both get you onto the water, but their main purpose differs. Picking the right session helps you get the experience you're actually looking for.
1. Book a Lesson to Learn the Fundamentals
A beginner paddle board lesson focuses on equipment, safety, balance, paddling and board control. It's the strongest starting point if you've never tried SUP or want a proper introduction rather than a quick explanation.
You have time to ask questions and practise. If nerves are the main obstacle, read our guide for nervous beginners before booking.
2. Book a Guided Tour to Explore
Our 90-minute guided SUP tour is built around shoreline sightseeing. You paddle with a guide, explore from the water and have photos included.
A tour can include practical guidance, but it isn't the same as a session focused on teaching the fundamentals. If you're unsure about your ability, ask us which booking is appropriate before choosing a tour.
3. Book an Intermediate Class to Improve
Already paddling confidently on your knees, but struggling to stand? Or standing comfortably and wanting better strokes and turns? The SUP Skills & Confidence Class works on that next stage.
You don't need to repeat a first-ever introduction just because one part of paddling still feels difficult. Tell us what you can do and what you want to practise.
4. Choose Paddle Buddy for Company
Paddle Buddy is for people who have paddled before and understand the basics. A local paddler joins you for a relaxed outing and can offer helpful tips along the way. It's a different choice from structured instruction or a sightseeing route.
Our guide to finding paddling company explains when that option makes sense.
A Quick Way to Decide
- First time or learning the basics: beginner lesson.
- Ready to explore the shoreline: guided tour.
- Working on standing and stronger technique: confidence class.
- Comfortable paddling and want company: Paddle Buddy.
Choose for your current ability. The right pace is more useful than the most ambitious title.
